One Laptop Per Child is big in Birmingham. There are 10,000 XO laptops out among schoolchildren, starting with the Glen Iris School, and 5,000 more are to be deployed. So far, everyone's been focused on what the XO can do for kids, and rightly so.
Now let's take a look at the fun parents and other kids at heart can have with our favorite Linux-based laptop. On Monday, December 22, OLPC News is proud to invite you to an adult XO showcase with several B'ham XO enthusiasts and I.
- We'll have several alternate user interfaces for adults: GentooXO, Ubuntu Intrepid, and Debian 4.
- We'll also explore the Jabber Server that powers XO Chat
- We may have the debut of a School Server on an XO.
OLPC News B'Ham MeetupFor those who aren't so geeky, we'll be showing off ways to chat iPhone to XO - a trick that will impress any party.

I so wish I cold be there. But next best would be chatting from my iPhone. I'll be commuting home, so TXT me first.

Woohoo! The meetup has started and we already have a local celebrity in attendance. Johnathan F Austin, the next Birmingham City Council member.
Johnny was just sworn in this morning.
