I'm a G1G1D1 donor.  I got my XO around December 20th, 2007.  Two weeks later the keyboard failed with a "stuck on" Alt key.  I RMA'd the machine on January 4th, 2008 and the replacement arrived around January 20th.  Yesterday (April 13th), the keyboard of the replacement XO also failed, this time with a "stuck on" Ctrl key.

Has anybody else experienced keyboard failures on multiple machines?  Or am I just terribly unlucky?

I used my XOs heavily -- I wrote code and composed documents on them.  I used the built-in keyboard -- I found it was fine for my two-fingered typing style.  I'd estimate that the first XO failed after 30 hours and the second after 100 hours.

If my experience is typical, there's no way these machines will last 4 to 8 years in a classroom.  More like 4 to 8 weeks!

I'm G3G3, all three arriving also around Dec. 20. One of them began misbehaving within a couple days of light use. One of them became troublesome *just* under the wire of the warranty. The third has shown no problems.

The two with trouble have both been RMA'd and there's no sign of badness from the replacements.

It sounds (see wiki) like there's been an attempt to fix the problem. But it's not clear when this change happened, how successful it is, or how many of the pre-fix machines have shown the problem.

Anyway, yeah, it's worrying.

I have two, ordered D1 received Apr 5th, one my son uses and one I use to follow joyrides.  So far we've not had any issues with the hardware.  As long as TuxPaint works, my son is happy :-)  The latest news from Walter B. indicates that all the G1G1 laptops have shipped, so now they are concentrating on the RMAs and other difficult delivery issues - hope that helps.

BTW, my son dropped his from about 1 and a half feet onto concrete - no apparent damage beyond a small scratch to the case - not that I would repeat the 'test' - well there was the minor cardiac arrest, but ....
