Excellent idea!

if anyone from OLPC visits these forums: creating accessories like this could help fund the OLPC project. Smiley Even moreso if G1G1 becomes a long-trem option, thus garnering more users who've got disposable income to purchase these amenities with.

A shoulder strap with a holder for the potenco charger and a cell phone, emblazoned with the URL or OLPC, would be like walking advertisement.

Does anyone watch Stargate Atlantis?  I could swear their tablet PCs can be velcro-ed to the back of the uniform for easy access/carry.  A jacket with a flap to tuck the XO under would be sweet.  And it's lumbar support!

Here's a great example of a fantastic prototype!

It even uses renewable resources, sisal rope!  Smiley

Isn't hemp rope better/softer?

Hi!

I guess the end user could determine what ever rope is available could be used.

Of course, since the XO is rather light weight, soft yarn could be used also!  Grin

Ask and you shall receive: The eVest has many gadget pockets, including one large enough to stow a laptop in the back.

There are now women's versions of eVests, as well. Guys don't get to have all the fun anymore. Smiley

I was thinking of something like an old karate belt, or a nice obi -- if you know how to tie a proper knot -- that's all you need.

Nicer look and feel than a piece of rope. Same simplicity.

all jokes aside, I do think some kind of strap through those two small holeson the XO to be hung around your neck while you work might be a good safety measure against accident drops and falls.

I used a mutli-colored woven cotton Guatemalan belt that I looped through the holes and then sewed the ends together. Works great. It is only an inch wide, so it fits through the XO holes without bunching, has a little bit of give & flexibility, is colorful & strong, and if I do spill my tea on it, I can wash it. Plus, it matches the white and green laptop and my yellow and orange logo - it looks better on the laptop than it ever did on me.

Rope's no joke- I think it's the right idea.  I went and got 6' of 3/8" "black derby rope" and tied it to the loops on the XO.  Looks and works OK, but I'm no Boy Scout, so my knot tying's probably not what it should be.  Anyone with mad knot skills got any suggestions?

I was going to get the thickest rope that would fit through the hole and then plug the end of the rope by wrapping or melting it, but I thought the knots would be better because the rope could be removed and used for other things.

That remind me about that early prototype powercord/strap they had. I'll have to do something similar. ̬ I'll be back when I've finished a prototype.

A friend suggested using some velcro tape and can tie knots better than I can.  The result is pretty satisfying, but I think I need a pad to keep the rope from rubbing on my neck when I walk.
